Our district leadership couldn't budget their way out of a paper bag. They are so out of touch with reality that they dare stick this bond request down our throats so soon after it's been already voted down. The arrogance of this group is evident in the way they deal with citizen concerns. Most controversial topics are tabled and re-introduced when people are on break, or set at special meeting times when people can't make it. Then if you manage to go voice a concern at a board meeting, a blank stare will be your only acknowledgment. And these are elected "officials" whom we entrust our childrens' futures with...the same people who spent a fortune of taxpayer money to develop a "Public Montessori" and now believe we must pay for out-of-district children to attend small classes with individualized attention...they even want to expand to the Middle School...what next? a bond request for a Montessori High School? And to think we all believed that Edgewood was being closed to "save money"...a nasty joke indeed.
Unfortunately, a school board candidate endorsed by the district will continue this Montessori agenda, allowing our traditional programs to take a back seat--programs PAID FOR BY THE TAXPAYER and utilized by the majority of our children. Okemos board members should make Okemos children and the traditional programs their highest priority. And until they do, I will be voting a big, fat "NO" on the milleage request this time around.
