Thank goodness I'm not alone. From all of the well written letters to the local papers I was feeling like I would be considered a cheapskate and a child-hater by opposing this tax. Funny how people who likely look down on a homeless person begging for a few dollars will ask all of us to "donate" hundreds of dollars a year for many years to come so their children can have some soon to be outdated gadgets in the classroom.
We just approved a tax to support the zoo. This is something I would have hated to see the local children deprived of. The Okemos children most likely have computers they can use at home, much more so than in Lansing or many of the other local areas.
As a retired educator I recall wondering how many of the hastily contrived computer exercises were somehow magically more worthwhile than materials available on paper.
We are still paying on the new high school bond, in addition to all of the regular taxes and expenses which are increasing far faster than the incomes of many of us, while are property values are actually dropping, despite being well supported.
My family and I will be voting "no" and appreciate your efforts in exposing this attempt to extort us.
