I hope everyone remembers that on April 30, 2006, the Lansing State Journal published an editorial urging Okemos voters to vote against a very similar technology bond. Here are some highlights:
"After reviewing the bond proposals and interviewing representatives from these districts, the LSJ editorial board recommends the following: Vote no on Okemos' 1.6 mill, $7.9 million bond measure. . . .[M]ost of the money would go to technology - all but about $800,000. So, what will the rest, about $7 million, buy? School bond representatives were vague when the editorial board posed such questions. . . . . However, bond proposal literature and our meeting with Okemos representatives both left the impression that what they want is uncertain . . . .
We have no doubt that like many school districts, Okemos has buses and old computers in need of replacement. Eventually, that will have to happen. We're just not convinced this bond initiative is the way to do it."
