These typical liberal public school leaders always claim to be "for the children." I'm tired of "teacher entitlements!" If you have a teenager in high school, you might be aware of how many times your child has a substitute teacher. Our son says he hardly goes a week without at least one. Unfortunately, the parents can't get involved as much at the high school level by being in the classroom from time to time, but it is evident that there is a lack of connection between the teacher and the teenagers. We need dedicated people teaching our kids, not technology. There needs to be more teaching by the teacher in the classroom, not teaching with technology.
Educating a child does not take an exorbitant amount of money! Every level of government, including the school board, should be responsible for reducing and balancing their budget. Instead, it seems, as though they think it's their job to spend our tax dollars!
My husband and I are partners on a 4-unit rental house in Holt. Because it's classified as non-homestead, we were nailed to the wall with additional taxes to fund their overindulgent Holt High School. Have you been inside that school? It's ridiculous! Do our leaders think they need to "Keep up with the School-Jones" in order to teach successfully? So, who has to pay for this increase? Eventually, we will have to increase the rent for the tenants, who are, in part, funded by us taxpayers.
If commercial properties have to pay additional taxes to cover Okemos' millage, they will have to pass the cost on to you and me, the consumer. Just ask your favorite retailer what their rent or tax is. You'll be shocked by what it takes to survive as a business owner.
The tax burden in this state is way too high as it is. Have you compared your property taxes to other states? Have you noticed how many businesses are moving out of this state? When business owners are taxed more, there is less profit to pass on to employees. It takes an enormous sacrifice to start and run a business. Business owners are the great people among us who boost our overall economy, by creating jobs. Property owners and tax payers sacrifice, save and budget, just to gain a small "piece of the pie". Every small success is penalized by higher taxes.
Liberal leaders claim to be "for the little people", "the less fortunate", "the lower income". Anytime a tax increase is passed, it hurts us all! Vote "NO" on this millage, please!! The TRUE compassionate, and commonsense thinker is a conservative thinker!
