Until we have a complete public accounting of the OPS books and records, the public really has no way of knowing or confirming the District's true needs. We need to examine every budget, every line item, and the check register or cancelled checks. How much do the Administrators spend on themselves? Do Principals have special budgets? Who has OPS credit cards and what shows up on those statements? What does the public pay for meals, travel, consultants, and out of town meetings for Administrators and Board Members? I suspect there is a ton of waste and mismanagement at OPS which will never be uncovered unless the public demands it instead of just blindly paying more taxes.

According to the Detroit Free Press, 20% of every new education dollar in Michigan goes to teacher health and retirement benefits. How much better than your own do you really want these benefits to be?
