Thanks, Newbie, you hit the nail on the head. We all started out that way-happy to be part of Okemos and with unflinching loyalty to OPS. Then, somehow, we got involved in something that made us pay attention, maybe go to a Board Meeting, maybe watch one on TV. We were naive enough to think the Board would want to hear from us parents and that we took the time to sit through a meeting just to put our two cents worth in. Maybe it was the Edgewood closing, the sweetheart giveaway of the play fields, the Montessori money pit, bully tactics by the OEA hit squad, whatever. We've all been there. Heck, I used to be so gung ho for OPS that my name's on the wall at OHS for an OEF contribution.
The fact that we have paid attention, and discovered the incredible arrogance of our "public servants," does not mean we don't value education, or some of the truly great OEA teachers; we just don't like to be abused-financially, or otherwise. I'm voting no on the techno-bus bond. OPS should budget for wheels, just like the rest of us.
Newbie, you are now part of the club. I'll be contacting you when we launch the recall of OPS Board members.
