I must apologize for my previous rant. When I woke up to the results this morning, I was somewhat troubled to say the least. But now, upon further reflection, I must say that people here in Okemos DO care.
Many worked hard, (including this site) to try to bring a voice to a GROWING number of people from all around the community. Plus, they did it all for far LESS money than the Citizens Committee spent...and they didn't have to rob our PTO's piggy banks to do it. We also didn't harp on a classroom of kids to try to talk their parents into voting "no". My children were inundated for 2 weeks by teachers to "tell your parents to vote FOR the bond." Despicable that they would use a captive audience of innocent children to push for their toys.
Don't be fooled, we know exactly what is going on. We also know that every decision that the board makes is PRE-made and only goes through the motions with the public at their awkward meetings. We know that the MEA controls the district and only supports those candidates that are malleable. And we know that there will always be parents (a new crop every year) that will buy the company line. WE all did.
So, thanks again to all those who voted with their heads.
P.S. As a final note, if I hear about the 5th grade strings program being cut ONE MORE TIME!!!!!!!!!!ARGGGGGHHHH!!!!!! :-)
