Lansing State JournalA former Okemos parent/teacher organization treasurer will have a pretrial hearing this afternoon on charges of embezzling more than $28,000.
Meridian Township police said Debra Duncan took $28,127.82 from the PTO during her time as treasurer, eventually repaying $10,065.67 of it.
Duncan stepped down from her post in 2006.
"The new treasurer found some inconsistencies and started digging," town police Sgt. Greg Frenger said. "As far as the charges, it doesn't matter that she gave some back, she wasn't authorized to take it in the first place."
Duncan's pretrial hearing is set for 2 p.m. at the 55th District Court in Mason before Judge Rosemarie Aquilina.
